A Moment of Regression and Entwinement

By Rafael A. Hernandez

Clown face with a heart on his shirt had not yet changed
For he fancied someone who too shared his painted tears
Time and silence has worn him down to exchange
A shadowy gaze he had sewn over many years

His eyes are red again, for they still have use
He still takes pleasure in stunning the stray dears
Safety of connection and affection is serenity’s muse
Because love is one of his biggest fears

Devil face has washed away the clown and smiled again
Where there were once horns is now a glowing sprite
May he never return to the horrid wrap he had been
Cherubic cheeks and sweet utterances are now in sight

Be here forever, be here please, everlasting and final
Stick your head and heart over the dusty window sill
Fingers are printed into touches and soft granite
Cherub and clown, no, simply two hearts, will sit
