Graduating from a four year University is an admirable feat to accomplish. In this economy one might be considered foolish to not acquire a degree to ease the pains of job searching. I know this to be true, despite what some might feel toward my field of study. Will English literature make me a millionaire? Probably not but we’ll see. My biggest gripe is the university system itself. One must subject themselves to poverty as they pay for books, parking decals and not too different from the taxes collected by the Sheriff of Nottingham, tuition. Once this is done then there are the tribulations of attending classes. Unless you are passionate about your major (like I am), higher education will be a series of self imposed torturous sessions. Even if you happen to enjoy your classes, there will be another quarter (or semester) to follow; yes, it is like playing Russian Roulette. I can attest to times when even your favorite professor displays their darker side, an educational Mr. Hyde to their once pleasant Dr. Jekyll if you will. So be warned all of you soon to be undergrads. A labyrinth of scholastic pandemonium awaits you.
Why am I expounding about this subject? Well, it just so happens that I will be forced to return to Cal Poly Pomona for one last quarter of oh so awesome education. If you could not catch the bitter sarcastic remark then you clearly will not be able to understand my dismay and disappointment. I found out this past Friday from my adviser. Imagine a child who has saved up all his allowance to buy that long awaited toy only to find out that he needs to buy more pieces to complete it.
Optimistically, I have already survived four years and three months of university level work. How hard would three more months be? And I get to choose what ever classes I want. Fun right?
Pessimistically, I feel like Katniss being forced to return to the 75th Annual Hunger Games. Anyone have any metal wire?
