Comic Review: Avenging Spiderman #2

By Rafael A. Hernandez

Yellow subterranean creatures EVERYWHERE! And why? Because an even bigger subterranean race (also yellow) is kicking them out of their homes- caves? So who do you turn to? Jonah Jameson?! Okay, I’ll bite. The second issue of Amazing Spiderman is a disappointing follow up to the very exciting and fun premier issue. Though there are still a few laughs to be had and hype to rouse a reader’s attention, this issue is simply too underwhelming. Rather than calling this “Avenging Spiderman” it might be better to call it “The Spectatorial Spiderman”. With Spidey as the title character you would think he had more pages to shine but he spends most of the issue playing sidekick to Red Hulk. Followed with an anticlimactic ending, this issue leaves the reader wanting so much more. Is this the intent? Because it’s working. Let us hope the next issue redeems the potential merit this series promised with its first issue.
