Comic Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4

By Rafael A. Hernandez

The last three issues in one sentence- mutant turtles and their rat father figure search for their lost brother who they have not even met since their transfigured infancy.

Grab a slice of pizza and start trying to perform some backflips because it’s time for ninja turtle action with the fourth issue of the reinvented Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. What is abundant in this issue is the much desired reunion between Raphael and his turtle brothers. With three issues devoted to the doubts and hopes developing amongst Splinter’s sons, it is a great relief to finally see the complete team. But the potential for Raph’s irrational and often violent behavior has been planted into his mind and it will be interesting to see how this develops in later issues. Clearly this issue was an eventual bridge into later issues but it nicely sets the tone for the future of the series. Though he now has his best friend Casey Jones and the comfort of his family wrapped up in a nice butt-kicking bow, the subtle foreshadowing of an unsteady personality grow more obvious for Raphael.
